Philosophy

The SP-CL® anatomically designed cementless hip system targets primarily young, active patients. The features of the system and the range offered have been created with the needs of this demanding patient group in mind.

As a special response to their particular requirements the femoral components are designed according to the anatomic principle, which has proved its worth over three decades of use. The S-shaped stem and integral anteversion of this prosthesis compensate any axial and rotational forces almost completely and ensure a high level of stability and a good range of movement (ROM) in the joint itself.

Special features of the system help to make the operation gentler and less invasive. The flattened lateral profile protects the trochanter while the use of cancellous bone compressors helps retain valuable bone substance. The construction, with pronounced ribbing, and the use of LINK® Tilastan® alloy material result in a stem that is doubly elastic. This gives it superior primary stability and leads to stable osseo-integration – in other words secondary stability – while at the same time enabling the prosthesis to adjust well to the individual bone situation.

More Philosophy

The SP-CL® stem is available with HX® (CaP) coating and the prosthesis has a tapered, blasted distal tip. These features help it achieve secure metaphyseal fixation. On the medial side a significant length of the SP-CL® stem is supported on the calcar femorale (Adams’ arch), thus ensuring physiological transmission of force. Two CCD angles make it possible to adjust to the biomechanical requirements.

The stems in the SP-CL® system have a 12/14 taper and can be combined with all modular ceramic or metal prosthesis heads made by LINK. The neck of the SP-CL® has a flattened, tapered form allowing a good ROM.

The HX®-Coating is an osteoconductive coating approximately 15 μm thick. The proprietary electro-chemical coating process results in extraordinary mechanical strength of the coating, that endures the stress of implantation. The porous cell structure of approx. 160 μm cell diameter of the substrate’s surface is retained open, due to the thin overcoat and provides an optimal structure for osteoconduction.
